Comments:
This First Printing, Ex-Library copy is in better than acceptable condition. I listed it as same because of the flaws. Front endpaper has a library stamp with sticker on copyright page and back endpaper. Back endpaper has tiny spots. There's signs of neat pencil rubbed-off underlining to a few pages. Otherwise, No visible markings, highlights, tears to text. There's a spine crack between Pages 414/415, the overall copy has tight spine. Clean Hard Cover with moderate rubbing/fading on top/bottom spine and edge point. Back Dust Jacket has a tiny black mark with hand held marks. Bottom spine has library sticker. Dust Jacket is covered with mylar plastic. Top spine of Dust Jacket and Mylar plastic has chips with tiny scratches to plastic. Dust Jacket/Plastic have more moderate than lots of shelf/edge wear. Apart from flaws, one can get a lot of usage from this copy which is worth having at an affordable price. (O-3)
Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Presenting the history of modern Italy from the 18th century to the present, this book begins with a brief introduction to the legacy of the Renaissance and the 17th century. The author synthesizes modern history, placing it in a fully European context. He also critically re-examines certain traditional historical interpretations and assumptions. The "European context" rtanges from the Enlightenment to unity, to liberalism, to the South, to Facism and to the Republic. The book gives prominance to social, economic and cultural developments, while providing a picture of how ordinary Italians lived. Di Scala discusses the role of women and gives attention to the Italian South, not only in terms of the "problems" of that region, but also in terms of its active participation inthe historical and cultural life of the nation. Di Scala aims to make a contribution to the field by providing different historical interpretations of events in Italian history by incorporating the most recent scholary contributions in his analyses. the book includes a bibliographic essay designed to guide general readers and students to further reading on the various topics under consideration.
